This organic cotton scarf was digitally printed with my original mountain dye collage then hand dyed in my studio.
Experimenting with layering digital dye prints with hand dyed elements, this is a one of a kind piece of art. The mountains are a collaged image constructed of dye photography of my previous work. After digital printing, I hand tied and dyed the sky with warm grays, blue and soft purples.
This piece is a part of an ongoing project Im working on called Dyescapes. Ive found that dye patterns often mimic patterns in nature, geology and landscape. As water forms canyons, lakes, and deltas so does liquid dye form similar designs and patterns when applied to fabric. Im exploring digital dye printing, natural dye and a combination of the two in discovering when nature, place and hand made design intersect.
